Christmas

A few nights ago I read a book to my little sister A Merry Little Christmas by Mary Engelbreit. The book is an A to Z book explaining things about Christmas. Like I is for ice skates and then it explains some more things. I really like this beause it goes in alphabetical order. My mom also found a cool Christmas website, http://www.northpole.com/. I have been playing a lot of games on it. Christmas is just 5 days away!

Last night I read Mrs. Claus Explains it All by Elsbeth Claus. In this book Mrs. Claus answers and questions that kids ask about Santa. One of the questions is what Santa likes to eat best. Santa's favorite meal is macaroni -n- cheese. He also likes strawberries, but doesn't really care for vegetables. Mrs. Claus said that she and Santa do an hour of exercise every day in their gym. And, Santa's favorite kind of cookies are chocolate chip cookies. I really liked this book because it was full of questions and answers for me to learn a lot.

Fancy Nancy: The 100th Day of School

Last night I helped my 6 year old sister read Fancy Nancy: The 100th Day of School by Jane O'Connor. I had read it already a night before her. Everybody in Fancy Nancy's class is supposed to to bring in 100 of something for the 100th day of school. Fancy Nancy doesn't know what to bring and when she asks her teacher for help, her teacher told she can think of something. When she gets home she asks for help. Her mom tells her to make a picture out of macaroni. Then she asks her dad for help. He tells her to take 50 pairs of socks to school that would make 100 socks. Later that night her sister's goldfish dies. This is a wonderful book and you will have to check it out from the library to find out what Fancy Nancy brings to school to celebrate the 100th day.

Well I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while, so I'll tell you what I've been up to:

On Saturday it was finally sunny out so my dad and his friends shingled our roof. It was really loud. Also on Saturday it was Grump Days so we want to the parade. For Father's Day we painted pottery to give to my dad that we gave to him yesterday. We've gone to the pool a few times and we've had a few playdates. With my grandma we have baked some cupcakes from 2 books called Hello Cupcake and What's New Cupcake? Right now I'm reading The Far Side of the Loch which would be about Martha, Laura Ingalls Wilder's great grandma. I'm only on the 3rd chapter so I'll post about it later when I'm further in the book. Right now at night my mom is reading to me and my sister the book Summer of the Monkeys. In this book the boy, Jay Berry is trying to catch monkeys. At one point in time he caught two monkeys but they escaped. Jay Berry even got in a fight with the monkeys who bit him and pulled his hair out. The monkeys even got him drunk. The part he hates the most is when he gets sick and his sister practives being a nurse. Yesterday I finished reading Dewey the Libary Cat on the Kindle -it was a great book. I've been to the library a lot this summer. My little sister started gymnastics earlier this summer and tomorrow I have our summer reading program at the library and piano lessons. I better practice tonight.

Book of the Week 2

The book of the week this week is Max Counts His Chickens by Rosemary Wells. In this book the Easter Bunny hid ten hot pink chicks. When Max's sister Ruby wakes up she says "finders keepers." Max and Ruby are both looking but Ruby spots all the eggs. Grandma comes in the room and says "oh dear" and makes a phone call. If you want to figure out who the Grandma calls, read Max Counts His Chickens. I like this book because it's fun seeing where Max and Ruby look and it is just in time for Easter.

Abby Takes a Stand

In November I read Abby Takes a Stand by Patricia C. McKissack. This is something that really happened in 1960. Abby is a black person back in the time of segregation. My teacher explained that segregation means black people and white people could not eat at the same restaurants or go to the same schools, or drink in the same drinking fountains. The people in Abby's town are tired of being treated badly. They keep on having meetings on how to stop it. Finally they think of something. Part of the plan is that adults will sit in restaurants that only serve white people. The best part I liked about this book is that it is about a true event.

Snow Day # 3

I just finished reading Get Well Soon Mallory by Ann M. Martin. In this book Mallory gets sick. It turns out that Mallory has mononucleosis. Mallory has to get better before Thanksgiving because they are going to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. I really like The Babysitters Club books and I think you will too.
