Summer Vacation

We just got back from our family vacation to Colorado this summer. We went to the Royal Gorge Bridge, Olympic Training Center, Casa Bonita, and the Omaha Zoo. The books I read in the many hours we spent in the car were: How Tia Lola Came to Stay, Judy Moody Goes to Hollywood, and Dork Diaries (the 3rd book).

How Tia Lola Came to Visit Stay by Julia Alvarez is a book I really liked. They used a lot of Spanish in this book because there Tia Lola comes to visit from the Dominican Republic where they speak Spanish. Miguel and Juanita are siblings. Their parents just got divorced and they move to Vermont with there Mami. Their Papi still lives in New York when Miguel starts to like Tia Lola until she paints the house purple. Today at the library I got the second Tia Lola book and am looking forward to reading it.

I'm still reading the Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russell so iIll tell you more about that later.

Judy Moody Goes to Hollywood by Megan McDonald is abook that has a lot of interviews with the actors. I saw the movie Judy Moody and the Bummer Summer and I ilked this book because it has a lot of picturesof the movie. You can even get your own thrill points in this book just like Judy did in the movie. I have read all the Judy Moody books and was excited when the movie came out.

My Summer Reading Goal 40 books!

I have from May 24 until August 29 when school starts. If you're wondering why I have such a long summer, it is because we will have a new elementary building in the fall and the workers are getting a longer summer to keep working on construction.

Reading- Beginning of Summer

It's been awhile again so I'll tell you what I've been up to. I have been reading picture books for a week and a half and I have to tell you about this one: Charlie the Ranch Dog by Ree Drummond. My mom gave me this book to put in my book shelf, so I decided to read it before I put it away -the book was awesome. Charlie is a ranch dog and he has a friend Suzie who helps him. Suzie and Charlie are very different. Suzie dosen't have the paws, droopy eyes, the floppy skin, or the dangly ears. I really liked this book- it was funny and cute. I also got a puppy a few weeks ago so I am in the mood for puppy books. It helps that Sammy (my puppy) is the same kind of dog Charlie is.

My mom just finished reading The Watsons go to Birmingham by Christopher Paul Curtis. It was a good book. I liked the chapter were he falls in the whool pooh - known by most people as a whirl pool. The sad part of this book is when the church that his sister is in at the time gets bombed. This book was funny.

Right now I'm reading Piper Reed Campfire Girl by Kimberly Willis Holt. I started on Saturday and read five chapters on Saturday. I was only going to read four, but when Piper and her family got stopped by the police I just couldn't wait to see what happend, so I read another chapter. A new kid moves to town and is in Piper's class and has a brother in her younger sister's class and a brother in her older sister's class. Iv'e enjoyed this book so far and am hoping to finish it tonight or tomorow.

Another book I read recently is The Lemonade Crime by Jacqueline Davies. I read the first book and loved it. I read the last chapter of the first book over again to refresh my memory before I started this one.. In this book Jessie and her brother Evan think that Scott Spencer stole $208 from Evan's pocket. They think that because the one day when they were swimming Scott went in the house and came back out and had to leave suddenly. When Evan put his pants on there wasn't any money in his pocket. Jessie is so convinced about this she decides to have a trial to make Scott pay for his crime. Do you think that Scott stole the money?

Well... sorry I haven't posted in a while, but I'll tell you what I've been reading lately.

Two nights ago I fnished The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. In this book there is a Christmas pageant put on by a group of kids at a church. The Herdmans are a bunch of naughty kids and decide to be in the pageant. The person that normally directs the pageant breaks her leg. A different mom directs the play. Even though the pageant isn't the same as other years, it is really funny which is why I liked the book.

I read Dork Diaries by Rachel Renee Russell, too. This book is like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, except in a girl version. has problems with switcing new schools and gets embarassed when her dad drops her off at school in his exterminator van with a bug on top. I just stared the second Dork Diaries by the same author. My mom said there is another Dork Diaries book coming out this fall that I am already waiting for.

The third book I am blogging about is Smile by Raina Telgemeier. This book is kind of like Dork Diaries, too, except this girl has problems with her teeth.

This year I didn't have spring break but on my mom's first day after school we went to get henna tattoos. Tomorow morning I have ice skating that starts at nine. It is starting to feel like spring.

Hank the Cowdog

A few weeks ago I got some Hank the Cowdog books by John R. Ericson. We were listening to the first book in the series in our van. Hank is a really funny dog and he uses big words the wrong way. Drover is the other cowdog except Hank thinks Drover is more of a chickendog then a cowdog. I really like these books because Hank is very funny. I have started the second Hank the Cowdog book a few nights ago.

Christmas

A few nights ago I read a book to my little sister A Merry Little Christmas by Mary Engelbreit. The book is an A to Z book explaining things about Christmas. Like I is for ice skates and then it explains some more things. I really like this beause it goes in alphabetical order. My mom also found a cool Christmas website, http://www.northpole.com/. I have been playing a lot of games on it. Christmas is just 5 days away!

Last night I read Mrs. Claus Explains it All by Elsbeth Claus. In this book Mrs. Claus answers and questions that kids ask about Santa. One of the questions is what Santa likes to eat best. Santa's favorite meal is macaroni -n- cheese. He also likes strawberries, but doesn't really care for vegetables. Mrs. Claus said that she and Santa do an hour of exercise every day in their gym. And, Santa's favorite kind of cookies are chocolate chip cookies. I really liked this book because it was full of questions and answers for me to learn a lot.

Fancy Nancy: The 100th Day of School

Last night I helped my 6 year old sister read Fancy Nancy: The 100th Day of School by Jane O'Connor. I had read it already a night before her. Everybody in Fancy Nancy's class is supposed to to bring in 100 of something for the 100th day of school. Fancy Nancy doesn't know what to bring and when she asks her teacher for help, her teacher told she can think of something. When she gets home she asks for help. Her mom tells her to make a picture out of macaroni. Then she asks her dad for help. He tells her to take 50 pairs of socks to school that would make 100 socks. Later that night her sister's goldfish dies. This is a wonderful book and you will have to check it out from the library to find out what Fancy Nancy brings to school to celebrate the 100th day.
